Bobby Valentine received support as the next manager of the Red Sox from a most unexpected source: None other than Steve Phillips. Of course, the two were joined at the hip from 1997 through 2002 as manager and general manager of the New York Mets, even winning a National League pennant together in 2000. But it was no secret their relationship was a rocky one as they constantly feuded through the media. The volatile marriage finally came to a head in 2002 when Phillips, the GM, fired Valentine as manager. One year later, Phillips was shown the door. Now, eight years later, their paths have crossed again, ironically, in the media, where they once used to second-guess each other.
